Peggy and Luna Lu, associate professor Lyles School of Civil Engineering, School of Materials Engineering College of Engineering, Purdue University, talk about intelligent infrastructure. She says while our population has grown, our infrastructure hasn’t been updated.

• A new Intelligent Infrastructure center that is focused on sustainability, adaptivity, and autonomy.
• Examples of how smart sensors can be used to switch lane directions during a traffic jam, for example, and self-heal a bridge deck.
